Aquascape Protective Pond Netting effectively keeps debris and predators from entering the ponds, waterfalls, and other water features. Keeping leaves and other debris out of the water is the number one way to lower your pond maintenance as we don’t want unnecessary nutrients in the water leading to sludge and algae.  This will give you a huge head start for clean, clear and healthy water throughout the year.

Using a Pond Net in Autumn

Using a net over Autumn when the leaves are dropping will make maintenance much easier for you, especially if you are under or near to trees.  The net will catch many of the sticks and leaves before they enter the pond.  Make sure to still keep an eye on your skimmer to remove any floating debris that does manage to make its way through.  You may want to check out our Shark Pro Net with their strong end rake to help get leaves both on the surface and stuck between rocks at the bottom of your pond.

Using a Pond against Predators

The netting can also be used to keep pond fish safe from predators, such as herons. The quality woven poly material resists tearing and the reusable design allows the netting to be installed year after year.  Install this the same way as you would for Autumn.  The tauter you can get it, the more invisible it becomes so you can still enjoy your fish.  Perhaps just net off a section of the pond where your fish can hide from herons, allowing you easy access for feeding and maintenance.

Instructions for using Protective Pond Netting

This great video by Chris takes you through step by step getting your pond ready for Autumn including cutting back your plants and setting up your netting.

Aquascape pond netting comes conveniently rolled, making it simple and easy to install. The twelve, fourteen or twenty four included U-shaped stakes keep the net securely in place.  It also comes with a 1 year limited warranty.

You may want to set up a tent like system with strong posts at either end of your pond and a line of paracord stretched between the two.  Paracord is great because it doesn’t stretch unlike rope.  You can now drape your net over the cord and start staking the net all around the pond edge.  Clamps can be useful to fix the netting onto hard areas such as walls or patio edges.  Make sure to secure as much of the way around the base as you can to prevent leaves being blown under the net.  The more taut it is, the more debris will bounce off, preventing tears.

For larger ponds or awkward shapes, perhaps two nets cable tied together may work better for you.
