The Aquascape Pro Air 20 and Pro Air 60 Pond Aeration Kit is the ideal solution for aerating ponds and water features up to 19 000L or 68 000L. The complete kit provides everything needed to supply dissolved oxygen directly to pond water. The Air Pros features an energy-efficient, outdoor-rated 15-watt or 45-watt compressor with heavy-duty metal housing stands up to the elements, and its integrated rubber feet effectively minimize noise and vibration.
A specially designed, maintenance-free 25cm aeration diffuser uses a self-cleaning rubber membrane that expands to clear clogging dirt and debris. The diffuser’s interior weighted ballast keeps it at the bottom of the pond without the need for additional weights. A pre-installed barbed compressor outlet fitting easily attaches to the included 10mm braided tubing with pre-installed check valve. The Pro Air 60 includes a two way manifold to direct air to the two separate diffusers to target different areas of the pond. The included 9m of braided aeration tubing per diffuser is freeze-resistant and built to last in all seasons. Stainless steel hose clamps are included to secure aeration tubing to the outlet and diffuser. With the Pro Air Pond Aeration Kit, it is easy to maintain clean, clear, and healthy water.
Why Aerate your Pond?
Oxygen is the basis of all healthy processes. Aerating the water, helps the healthy breakdown of organic materials that enter the water such as dying plants, fish waste or uneaten fish food which would otherwise turn to sludge. The beneficial bacteria within the water thrive on oxygen and consequently can healthily break down these organics faster. The more aeration you can add to your water, the healthier it will be.
Aeration for Fish
Aeration is particularly useful for those with fish. Like us, fish need oxygen for respiration, making low dissolved oxygen levels in water the most common reason for fish death. You will see fish “gasping” out of the water and many fish will die at the same time displaying arched backs and flared gills.
Oxygen can drop in a pond for several reasons
- Reduced water movement
- Hot weather
- Thunderstorms.
- Water pollution from fertilizers
- Decaying algae & plants
This is why it is so important to keep your fish in a moving water system that splashes or bubbles the water to aerate it, or use the Air Pro Aeration Kit to help boost the dissolved oxygen within the water. Pump filters need cleaning regularly to remove rotting plant matter and algae, but again, aeration will help the natural breakdown of these nutrients. Pesticides have hard to break down compounds and so use these with extreme caution around water, remembering that they may also wash in the next time it rains. Feel free to ask us for advice about caring for your fish, no question is every a silly question when it comes to animal welfare.
